ABOUT THE BOZZETTI

You may be familiar with maquette, the French term for a small model of a larger, intended sculptural endeavour. The Italian term bozzetto, which translates to sketch, also describes studies for finalized works. A sketch may retain a unique spark that a completed work does not; the “imperfect” bozzetti often bring joy to viewers. They began as a contemplative practice during an artist residency. The idea was to create something within an hour, usually without source material, and this practice has continued to be a part of the artist’s studio life.

A BIODEGRADABLE 2025

The 2025 bozzetti are eco-friendly. Primarily biodegradable, comprised of naturally occurring materials, or occasionally photographs, many are created during travels and are often two-dimensional and tiny (2 x 2”) for this reason. Ancient materials and techniques such as glair and silverpoint are surfacing along with gouache and simple weaving. The artist will create twelve larger works from the year’s bozzetti, one from each month.

PURCHASING A BOZZETTO

The bozzetti typically ship within 1-2 weeks due to travels. They are housed in small, acid-free white mats for protection unless otherwise noted. Colours and textures in various lighting conditions may not perfectly match the digital images. Contact us regarding works in the catalogue that are not found here; they may still be available as originals or as limited edition, archival giclées. The artist retains copyright.
