Part of a series created for a third annual Earth Day exhibition, INTERWOVEN, the Mary's Bean is a rare sea bean or drift seed also known as the Crucifix Bean. This excellent specimen's surface is protected with a light coat of all-natural wax. Raffia has been coiled about the bean, which can easily be removed from its simple nest, if desired - either way, it is lovely to hold in prayer.

*Wax contains walnut oil.

ABOUT THE BOZZETTI

You may be familiar with maquette - the French term for a small model of a larger, intended sculptural endeavour. The Italian term bozzetto - which translates to sketch - also describes studies for finalized works. During an artist residency, a contemplative practice resulted in the first of these bozzetti and has continued to be a part of the artist’s studio life.
